Today in my quiet time with the Lord I came across a scripture that gave me pause. 2 Timothy 3:6-7 "For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth." I'm not sure why this stuck out to me other than the fact that I wondered if I could be one of those "weak women". It says they are burdened with sins and led astray by various passions. What kind of things are women passionate about? Fashion, money, kids, being popular, knowing the latest gossip, slander, sexual impurity, those are just a few things that women have been known to be passionate about. Well if we are burdened with them and easily led away from the Lord because of them then we will become weak and susceptible to the enemy and those he uses. One of the parts that bothered me the most is when Paul says "always learning but never coming to a knowledge of the truth. As some one who loves to learn this frightens me but as I read the following excerpt from a commentary on this passage by David Guzik he says something about that. H e quotes a man named Clark and talks about how it's because they are not meditating or putting into practice what they have learned, therefore they cannot grow. That brought me much comfort, because I know that as long as I'm practicing what the Lord has taught me, then I won't become one of those weak women. James 1:22-25 talks about being doers of the word and not only hearers! That's how we will be able to protect ourselves from those who seek to creep in and trip us up. We should rise up and become women of prayer and fasting. Women who read and KNOW and do their bibles! Women who seek first His kingdom and are passionate for Him! Women who trust in Him alone to provide for our needs. If we become women like that then we will be true helpmates for our husbands and true godly mothers to our children. May God truly be the head of our homes and may He be glorified in all that we are passionate about.
